Chapel Theatre Shows

Chapel Theatre Co produces 2 shows per year, plus our annual play festival. See below for this year’s season description!

Mr Burns: A Post-Electric Play

by Anne Washburn
Score by Michael Friedman
Lyrics by Anne Washburn

November 7 – 23, 2025

Anne Washburn’s imaginative dark comedy – a play with music featuring songs by Washburn and Michael Friedman – propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future.

After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of The Simpsons episode “Cape Feare” entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Seventy-five years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created.

A paean to live theater, and the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, Mr. Burns is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.

Chapel Theatre Annual Play Festival

January 22 – February 1, 2026

Our annual local play festival! Directors, playwrights, and actors all apply for this festival. We will choose 10 plays and match up teams to bring the scripts to the stage in one short month. This is a great opportunity for folks new to the scene, or seasoned writers, directors, and actors looking for a fun project and to meet new people.

Maze: A Labyrinth Parody

Written and Directed by Levi Buchanan
Co-Produced with Infernal Machine Productions

February 13 – March 8, 2025

Sixteen-year-old Sarah is given thirteen hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother Toby when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King, Jareth.

Chapel Theatre is collaborating with local writer/director, Levi Buchanan of Infernal Machine Productions, to bring “The Labyrinth: An Adaptation” to life. A cultural phenomenon, The Labyrinth continues Chapel Theatre’s focus on familiar storytelling, presented with unique perspectives. The show will include a live band, David Bowie songs, choreography, and an opportunity to collaborate with local mask makers and puppeteers.
