September Music Series

September 7: Musical Theatre Cabaret; Details Coming Soon

September 8, 7:30pm: Collapsi & Flyover States + Jessica Western

Flyover States is the musical duo made up of Aaron Elliott and Steven Patton. Together they’ve toured extensively and moved halfway across the country to Portland, Oregon, where they have continued to make music, teach, and write together.

Jessica Western makes up one half of Deathbed Playlist, the original duo collaboration between hospice music therapists. They bring therapeutic musical experiences to the bedside of hospice patients and their families is their professional passion.

When playing together, Jessica and Flyover States utilize their full range of musicianship and influences as well as bolster each other’s original music with new and exciting arrangements.

Collapsi is a solo project by Elizabeth Seward rooted in a singer/songwriter approach that pairs hooky melody with a little bit of grungy grit. Seward previously fronted the progressive post-rock NYC band Devola and has released music under her own name.

Collapsi’s sound is singer/songwriter-based, but dimensionally flexible. As such, the instrumentation relies heavily on guitar (primarily electric) and vocals, but leaves space for layers and collaborations with other musicians. The sound might be described as raw, gritty, grungy, ethereal, dreamy, soulful, bluesy, haunting, and melodic. Seward’s music has drawn comparisons to PJ Harvey and Cat Power, among others.

September 22, 7:00pm: The Quieter Side of Nadine Records (Showcase)

Lineup:

“Nadine’s next release to drop is an artful and meditative collection of songs from Barry Brusseau called Quiet Please. Brusseau played guitar with Northwest punk rock legends the Jimmies, but this new project is nowhere near that band’s three-chord wheelhouse. Each of the record’s eight tracks features Brusseau’s baritone accompanied by a single instrument, from cello to moog synth to saxophone.”
